چکیده

The huge quantity of concrete is consumed by the construction industry all over the world, probably second largest after water. In India, the conventional concrete is produced by using natural sand from riverbeds as fine aggregate. Dwindling sand resources poses the environmental problem and hence government restrictions on sand quarrying resulted in scarcity and significant increase in its cost. This paper presents the study of steel fiber reinforced concrete with artificial sand as fine aggregate. Three matrices with compressive strength 20, 30 and 40 MPa were designed and reinforced with crimpled steel fibers at dosage rate of volume fraction 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 percent. The specimens were prepared, cured and tested for compressive strength, flexural strength and split tensile strength. The strength of steel fiber reinforced natural sand concrete (SFRNSC) and steel fiber reinforced artificial sand concrete (SFRASC) have been compared with the test data from the present study. The promotional use of artificial sand will conserve the natural resources for the sustainable development of the concrete in construction industry.

EVALUATION OF CONCRETE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK AND MULTIPLE LINEAR REGRESSION MODELS

In the present study, two different data-driven models, artificial neural network (ANN) and multiple linear regression (MLR) models, have been developed to predict the 28 days compressive strength of concrete. Seven different parameters namely 3/4 mm sand, 3/8 mm sand, cement content, gravel, maximums size of aggregate, fineness modulus, and water-cement ratio were considered as input variables...

An Investigation into the Use of Manufactured Sand as a 100% Replacement for Fine Aggregate in Concrete

Manufactured sand differs from natural sea and river dredged sand in its physical and mineralogical properties. These can be both beneficial and detrimental to the fresh and hardened properties of concrete. This paper presents the results of a laboratory study in which manufactured sand produced in an industry sized crushing plant was characterised with respect to its physical and mineralogical...

An Investigation on the Effects of Aggregates Properties on the Performance of Unbound Aggregate Base Layer

Unbound aggregates are the most common type of materials used for construction of the base layer of flexible pavements in Iran and worldwide. Due to the lack of binder, the performance of the compacted unbound aggregates is highly dependent on the properties of the gravel (particles remaining on sieve 4.75mm, sand (particles passing sieve 4.75mm and remaining on sieve 0....

Compressive strength assessment of concrete containing metakaolin using ANN

Artificial neural networks (ANNs) as a powerful approach have been widely utilized to demonstrate some of the engineering problems. A three-layer ANN including three neurons in the hidden layer is considered to produce a verified pattern for assessing the compressive strength of concrete incorporating metakaolin (MK). For this purpose, an extensive database including 469 experimental specimens ...
